5 Factors to Consider Before Buying a Bed Frame

Want to add a beautiful piece of art to your room? Want to add potential storage space to your bedroom? Want to find a home for your mattress? Want to get a good night’s sleep?

A perfect bed frame (can solve all of these problems, but how do you know which type of bed frame is best for you? The following tips will help you buy the perfect bed frame for you that will look great for years to come.

Our guide covers the basics of how to buy a bed, including:

  1. Two sizes need to consider
  2. A platform bed or a box spring
  3. Two heights need to be in mind
  4. Materials of headboard backrest
  5. Style and decoration

But before we get into the main topic of the article, let’s clarify: what is a bed frame?

A bed frame is a complex piece of furniture, traditionally this includes the integrated headboard, footboard, legs and side rails of the bed. Bed frames are designed to provide support to the box spring and mattress.

The bed frame keeps the mattress and foundation off the floor, helping to keep them away from moisture buildup, dust and mold. However, in contrast to a basic mattress foundation or base, bed frames are often decorative and come in a variety of styles.

Two sizes need to consider

There are two sizes you need to know. Measure your room size and know your mattress size is necessary.

Firstly, you probably know if your mattress is a twin, full, queen, or king. If not, measure it to confirm what standard bed frame it will fit. Then, measure your room to see what size of the bed will work in your bedroom or apartment. Think about the other furniture you want in the room and how much space you need to move around comfortably.

A Platform Bed or a Box Spring

Box springs and bed platforms are both designed to provide firm horizontal support for your mattress.

Most box springs today don’t contain springs. Instead, they are often nothing more than wooden frames covered with fabric. But as mattresses have become better constructed over the years, box springs have become less and less common.

Platform beds have a solid surface, which is not only a type of bed but also a style of bed. Some bed frames known as platforms have slats rather than a solid surface for support.

If your bed frame is designed to be used with a box spring, then it is wise to use one. Otherwise, you may not need one. If you choose a platform bed, you only need a mattress, which invariably saves the purchaser money.

Two heights need to be in mind

Consider the height of the bed frame and the height of the mattress.

Think about what sitting position will make you more comfortable, how high you want your bed to be, and then choose a foundation that will allow your mattress to reach the right height for you.

If you prefer to stay low, a platform bed is a good choice. You can also look for a low-profile bed frame. A higher mattress is usually more comfortable for people with mobility issues.

Materials of headboard backrest

There are many types of bed headrest materials on the market, the following are the four most common, which can give you some inspiration when you choose.

Solid wood headboard backrest  More space-saving, natural and simple texture, e,g.:solid wood backrest and lattice fence backrest.
Metal headboard backrestSpace-saving, and suitable for personalized home decorating style, such as iron metal bed is suitable for light luxury style space
Leather (fabric) headboard backrestSoft and comfortable, suitable for modern style bedroom, but relatively occupy space
Solid wood & leather combination headboard backrestWith both solid wood space-saving and leather comfort.

Style and decoration

Since the bed is the focal point of any bedroom, choosing the right style is of utmost importance. The priority is to find your style. If you want to create a warm, cozy feeling, you may want to buy a wooden bed frame to set a comfortable atmosphere. If you prefer a sleek, modern look, you should choose a metal bed frame to create clean lines and a minimalist style.

If you’re doing an entire bedroom makeover, you can work with an interior designer to help you make your choices. Or browse furniture websites or visit offline brick-and-mortar stores to help lock in your style.

Conclusion

When buying the perfect bed frame, in addition to the above five points to consider, you also need to consider the shape, leg height and even the overall material, color and craftsmanship of the bed frame and so on.

It is recommended that you look at more for comparison or seek the help of professional interior designers so that you can explore the advantages of each style.
